If you weren’t already aware, Mayor of Newark Cory Booker is the best example of someone doing their civic duty correctly. He doesn’t hide behind his desk, he gets out there (mostly on Twitter) and responds to actual problems his citizens (and everyone else) have, whether it’s fixing a severe pothole, or letting people know where to find relief after Hurricane Sandy.

He also gives a certain editorial assistant permission to reprint a short quote from him so she didn’t have to pay TIME Magazine $2,000.
